State Programs: Virginia

NOCTI and Virginia have developed a relationship based on the use of NOCTI assessments as verified credit tests as well as end of program assessments.

The Virginia Board of Education has selected many of the NOCTI “Job Ready” occupational competency assessments as substitute student-selected verified credit tests. The Office of Career and Technical Education, in addition to promoting the use of occupational competency assessments as an option for student-selected verified credits, supports their use for Career and Technical Education program improvement purposes as well as for external credentialing.

**NEW** Virginia’s Workplace Readiness Skills Curriculum and Assessment.

The Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Office of Technical and Career Education received a $223,000 WIA-funded contract from Opportunity Inc., Hampton Roads' Workforce Development Board, to write and disseminate curriculum for high school technical and career education (TCE) students to learn Virginia's Workplace Readiness Skills. These 13 skills are embedded in all Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school curricula in Virginia.

The Virginia Beach Public Schools Workplace Readiness Skills Curriculum Project was completed in May, 2006 with the development of 156 Workplace Readiness Skills lessons for the 13 skill areas.
