General FAQ
Why can’t teachers have a copy of the test?
To protect the integrity of the assessment and the test taker data, NOCTI’s Security Policy strictly prohibits release of assessment instruments to instructors and/or para-professionals teaching in the content area for which the assessment will be administered. Instructors may not proctor or evaluate their own students. Tests, test questions, performance jobs and scoring criteria may not be shared with instructors at any time.
How do I know which test to give?
Each of NOCTI’s standardized assessments has a critical core competency list which is part of the Assessment Blueprint (available at www.nocti.org). By comparing an Assessment Blueprint to your curriculum, you can determine the degree of alignment with your program. Study Guides for students and teachers are also available for a nominal charge.

Who can serve as an assessment proctor?

occupational area, but should be:
• Experienced in administration of objective-type assessments
• Knowledgeable of all NOCTI security processes and procedures
• Detail-oriented and able to monitor groups of people
• Capable of speaking and reading clearly and audibly
• Familiar with the computer lab setup and have access to technical support
staff for assistance if utilizing online administration (refer to NOCTI’s Online
Systems Coordinator Guide for information on computer lab setup)
NOTE: Instructors/program assistants are NOT allowed to proctor NOCTI written assessments.
Where can I find qualified performance evaluators?
Performance evaluators should be experts in their field and may include the following individuals:
• Advisory committee members trained or working in the occupation being assessed
• Private contractors and local businesspersons working in the occupation being assessed
• Military personnel trained and working in the occupation being assessed
• Qualified non-instructional staff working in the occupation being assessed
(e.g., school nurse, maintenance staff)

Can I purchase study materials for my son/daughter who will be taking a NOCTI test?
NOCTI does allow a parent, student, or teacher to order a single Teacher Companion Guide which contains all of the same information as a Student Study Guide. Please visit the following link to access the Study Guide Order Form for Parents/Students: http://www.nocti.org/forms.cfm.
How much does it cost to become a NOCTI testing site?
There is no cost to have an account set up and a site code issued for your school/district.
How do I get a copy of my scores from a NOCTI test?
Individuals should request scores from the institution that originally administered the NOCTI assessment. If the individual’s scores are not available from that source for some reason, then score reprints may be requested from NOCTI. Based on the year the test was taken, there is a fee of $50.00 (2001 to present) or $100.00 (prior to 2001).
In a multiple session test administration, if a student finishes the first session early, should the student start the next session?
No, time may run out before the student finishes the second part of the test and the student would not be allowed to finish the test.
Why doesn’t my overall score make sense when I average my duty areas scores together?
There are more questions in some duty areas than others so those scores are weighted more heavily.
