Pre-Skills for Mastercam Certification Assessment

The Pre-Skills Mastercam Certification assessment was developed jointly by members of Mastercam’s certification advisory council as well as the Educational Division of CNC Software and NOCTI. The multiple-choice assessment is currently available in paper/pencil format through NOCTI.

The assessment evaluates the level of machining knowledge and skills of individuals and assists instructors in determining if a student is ready to proceed with Mastercam Certification. The assessment is currently used for students enrolled in the Mastercam CAD/CAM program as a tool for pre-qualifying (pre-screening) candidates for the Mastercam Certification program. Students who score a 70% or better are considered qualified to take the Mastercam assessment to earn a programmer certificate.

Mastercam Certification Program

The goal of the Certification program is not only to produce skilled programmers, but also to give certification holders the ability to adapt their talents to the ever-changing technologies in the manufacturing world. The Mastercam Certification Program confirms your students’ skills with an industrially driven national test.

A Certification Advisory Committee, along with the help of several school advisory committees, defined the skills necessary for CNC operators and programmers and approved the Mastercam Handbook Curriculum as the first recommended curriculum. It is meant to be taught in 80 to 100 hours of instruction and can be used to produce programmers who can pass a practical Certification test.

Mastercam’s Certification program is important in both the Educational and Industrial markets. Originally meant to create a benchmark for schools, many programmers see Certification as a way to validate the skills they know. This makes it easier for them to get hired, and makes it easier for a shop to know that incoming programmers have what it takes.
