Professional Development in Nevada

NOCTI recently completed professional development workshops for the Nevada Department of Education (NVDOE). Five three-hour professional development sessions were conducted for a group of new CTE teachers. The content of the workshop utilized the New CTE Teacher publications by NOCTI/ACTE as a foundation. Topics covered included effective CTE classroom management, instructional planning, tips for developing lessons, and formative and summative assessments.

The CTE administrator professional development sessions were facilitated over a five-day period and provided an overview of CTE, program delivery options, quality framework standards, assessments and certification, funding basics, and employer engagement.

Both groups had numerous opportunities to network with their peers and to practice the strategies introduced during the sessions. NVDOE representatives participated and addressed questions on licensing, the Nevada frameworks and instructional materials, and funding.

If your school or state is interested in a professional development workshop either onsite or in a virtual format, please reach out to us at nocti@nocti.org to start planning! This content is great for a summer professional development activity!

Performance Testing Alternatives

Due to the continued impact of COVID-19 on education, NOCTI is providing ideas to assist our NOCTI community with planning for performance testing in winter/spring 2021.

Examples of ideas include:

  • Live Stream Evaluation
  • Administration Outside of the School Facility (e.g., salon, restaurant, child care center)
  • Small Group Testing on Campus
  • Options for Live Volunteers

NOCTI clients are providing learning to their students in virtual formats, in person, and hybrids of virtual and in person. While we may not have a solution or idea that works for all assessments or for all jobs within an assessment, we hope this resource is helpful. Sites are encouraged to discuss options with industry representatives selected to serve as performance test evaluators.

NOCTI clients can access the full resource document that includes specifics for each option in their Client Services Center.

Learning Management System Updates

NOCTI has developed a new Learning Management System (LMS) that includes features for sharing content, creating classes, engaging students, and tracking progress. During development, significant time was spent on exploring how to develop an LMS that provides everything a program needs, while keeping the features user friendly and streamlined. The primary goal is to develop an LMS for use by NOCTI and Nocti Business Solutions, but to also create a subscription-based system that could be used by organizations sharing our vision of supporting education and continued learning. When the LMS launches in the upcoming months, the focus will be on utilizing the system to deliver instructional resources for our new micro-credential initiative. Our team is excited for the addition of an LMS to our suite of online systems. Watch for more information in the coming months!
